**Grade Level:** Nursery 2
**Subject:** Numeracy
**Duration:** 1 hour
#### Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. Orally count from 1 to 100.
2. Identify numbers 1 to 100.
3. Understand the sequence of numbers from 1 to 100.
#### Materials Needed:
- Flashcards with numbers 1 to 100
- Number charts/posters
- Interactive counting videos
- Number puzzle games
- Whiteboard and markers
- Stickers or small rewards
- Counting objects (e.g., buttons, beads, etc.)
#### Lesson Outline:
1. **Warm-Up (10 minutes):**
- Welcome the students and get them settled.
- Begin with a counting song or chant to engage the students and create a fun atmosphere. Use a well-known counting song like “The Big Numbers Song”.
- Display a number chart on the board and point to the numbers as you sing.
2. **Introduction (10 minutes):**
- Show a number chart with numbers 1 to 100.
- Quickly go through the chart pointing and counting together with students from 1 to 100.
- Explain the importance of knowing how to count and identify numbers.
3. **Interactive Lesson (20 minutes):**
- **Counting Practice:**
- Use flashcards: Hold up a flashcard with a number and have students call out the number.
- Group counting: Have students count in unison up to 10, then 20, gradually making your way to 100.
- Individual turn: Go around the classroom and ask each student to count sequentially. First student starts at 1, the second continues at 2, and so on.
- **Identification Practice:**
- Number hunt: Place numbers (in various forms) around the classroom and have students find and identify them.
- Number matching game: Give students number cards and ask them to match them to a larger chart.
- Interactive video: Use a short educational video that reinforces counting and number identification.
4. **Practice Activity (15 minutes):**
- Distribute counting objects (buttons, beads, etc.) to students in small groups.
- Ask students to count out loud as they place the objects into groups of 10, then count the groups to 100.
- Number puzzle games: Provide puzzles that require sequencing numbers from 1 to 100.
5. **Assessment/Evaluation (5 minutes):**
- Call students up one by one to count aloud a chosen sequence of numbers, e.g., 1-20, 20-40, etc.
- Use a quick oral quiz where you show numbers from flashcards and ask students to identify them aloud.
6. **Closure (5 minutes):**
- Recap the lesson: Together, count one more time from 1 to 100.
- Praise and encourage students for their participation and efforts.
- Hand out small rewards or stickers to each student as a token of achievement.
#### Home Connection:
- Encourage parents to practice counting with their children daily using household items.
- Send home a simple worksheet or suggested activities that parents can use to support their child’s learning at home.
#### Reflection:
- After the lesson, note which students may need additional support with counting and identifying numbers.
- Reflect on which activities were most engaging and effective, and plan any necessary adjustments for future lessons.
